By Anna Ziegler
Directed by Johanna Gruenhut
October 17 – November 18, 2018

At Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater in the Arlene and Robert Kogod Cradle
1101 6th St SW, Washington, DC

Tom and Amber, freshmen at Princeton University, seem to be on the same page about where their relationship is heading, until suddenly they aren’t. What begins as a casual hook up turns into a Title IX hearing in which both students have everything to lose. Tackling the highly charged topic of sexual consent, this provocative new play by Anna Ziegler (Photograph 51) investigates the intersection of gender and race in campus politics today, offering a nuanced and psychologically rich portrait of a generation.  Featuring Sylvia Kates and Jaysen Wright.

The Los Angeles Times raved: “Gripping. Beautifully rendered and complex…destined to trigger discussion.”

Your tickets will be available for pick up at Arena Stage outside of the Kogod Cradle one hour prior to your scheduled performance. Tickets are not being held or sold at the Arena Stage box office.

Running time: 90 minutes, no intermission

THE AGITATORS

By Mat Smart | Directed by KenYatta Rogers

Featuring Ro Boddie (as Frederick Douglass)
and Marni Penning (as Susan B. Anthony)

Atlas Performing Arts Center, Lang Theatre

October 24-November 25, 2018

This brilliant play examines the 45-year friendship and occasional rivalry between two great, rebellious, and flawed American icons: Susan B. Anthony and Frederick Douglass. Young abolitionists when they met in Rochester in the 1840s, they were full of hopes, dreams and a common purpose. As they grew to become the cultural icons we know today, their movements collided and their friendship was severely tested. This is the story of that 45-year friendship – from its beginning in Rochester, through a Civil War and to the highest halls of government. They agitated the nation, they agitated each other and, in doing so, they helped shape the Constitution and the course of American history.A loving and faithful portrait of two historical figures, Mat Smart’s story also brims with modern urgency and relevance.

“A brilliant success in illuminating the rights of American citizenship—not to be missed. The Agitators faithfully demonstrates the demarcation line of wills that brought these two forces of nature together, when race and gender issues, equality and voting rights, were being forged in the wake of slavery and the Civil War.”—Rochester Democrat & Chronicle

“Intimate and insightful, it’s a compelling portrait of two flawed but inspiring agents of change.” —Twin Cities Pioneer Press
