In the newest episode of “Who’s Cooking?” I had the honor of sitting down with Mrs. Virginia Ali, the current restaurant owner and wife on Ben Ali. Mrs. Virginia Ali and I discussed the rich history of the Historic U Street corridor and backstory of Ben’s Chili Bowl, which dated back as far as 1958. This month marks the 60th Anniversary of DC’S renowned half-smoke and hot-dog restaurant, Ben’s Chili Bowl. Ben’s Chili Bowl has been a DC staple since the late 50’s and has become landmark in Washington, DC known for their dedicated service to the community.

On Wednesday, August 22, 2018, Ben’s Chili Bowl celebrated 60 years of service by kicking the day off with a press conference followed by Ben’s Block Party on U street which featured Rare Essence, EU featuring Sugarbear, Maysa, Soul Searchers, Peace Makers, Ozone and many others. Later that evening festivities concluded at Ben’s 60th Anniversary Gala held at the Lincoln theater with performances by Faith Evans, Kenny Lattimore, Ayanna Gregory and others.

Happy 60th Anniversary to Ben’s Chili Bowl as they continue to provide great food and dedicated community service to Washington, DC! Check out the full episode of “Who’s Cooking?” Ben’s Chili Bowl 60th Anniversary Special Edition below:
