September 30, 2017 – Less than 24 hours after ripping down the 9:30 Club in DC, Grammy Award-winning bass guitarist Stephen “Thundercat” Bruner was on to the next city to unleash his bass guitar mastery. This night it was Brooklyn, NY where he performed back-to-back sold-out shows at The Brooklyn Steel. “ThunderCat” took to the stage joined by his brother Ronald Bruner Jr. on drums. Alongside the Bruner brothers was renowned multi-instrumentalist and orchestral director, Miguel Atwood Ferguson.
ThunderCat opened his set playing playing cuts from his recently released 2017 LP “Drunk”, followed by several cover songs (“These Walls”, “Complexion”, etc.) from Kendrick Lamar’s groundbreaking LP ” To Pimp A Butterfly” which he both co-wrote and co-produced on.
Midway through the show, after a long bass solo and various jam sessions, ThunderCat called out his fellow bandmates to perform solos of their own which were amazing. Atwood-Ferguson mesmerized the crowd with his crooning violin as ThunderCat’s brother, Robert showcased his speed and chops on drums. The show went on well over it’s scheduled time as ThunderCat continued to hypnotize the audience with his melodic bass riffs.
